AIM did not exist when the take over of alcatraz..... there is 1 that still live's today that was part of the take over... Richard Oak's and Lila Standingtall were the one's to gather the people... and took over ..... when most ran and thought they were all crazy...

Don't forget Richard Oaks the leader of Indians of All Tribes. And later Stella Leach another leader. John Trudell was a spokesman. This all was before AIM.

i don't even think AIM was really formed at the time of alcatraz..although ,one of the 4 members of Alcatraz leadership(John Trudell) went on to be chairman of AIM for some time

But AIm had nothing to do with the planning and occupation of the island.

AIM members from Minnesota visited the take over, including Dennis Banks, learned from the Indians the idea of occupying federal land as a form of protest, and returned to Minnestoa with that idea in their head.
