It was 43 years ago, I was 7, we rode on this train. I still remember it vividly. They stopped in the forest, and blew some steam, it was awesome.

"Narrow Gauge" refers to the width between the two rails of the track (3 feet).
Today, all major railroads in North America are Standard Gauge (5 feet between the rails) due to its advantages over Narrow Gauge. (higher speeds, larger trains)
For the most part Narrow Gauge went away in the early 1900s.
