PARTS of the city have been flooded and the Budget was a stinker but a group of Limerick businesses have at least managed to save Christmas.
Ireland's tallest Christmas tree a 100-foot ecofriendly design made from recycled steel was a casualty of the recent floods when the floating structure was swept downriver and damaged when it crashed
into the Shannon Bridge on what was supposed to be launch night.

But it was refloated on the Shannon last night in advance of Heineken Cup weekend in Limerick.

Ray O'Halloran, of Speedline Engineering in Moyross, said putting the
tree back together again was child's play, like the Meccano sets Limerick youngsters will find under their own Christmas tree in two weeks' time.

The environmentally friendly tree was designed by White Young Green and
manufactured by Speedline with metal from the Limerick Tunnel and Thomond Park construction projects supplied by Hegarty Recycling.

Other local firms and businesspeople involved in erecting the tree included Curtin's Scaffolding, Cussen Crane Hire, Pat Mulcair and
Skylift in Mungret
