So this weekend we ran our first training! Didn't even know if we were going to make it through the weekend because of the weather, as you can tell by the arena, it rained. A LOT. We were very cautious and debated running him at every phase, however he was feeling good, moving well, and didn't trip or slip once the whole weekend. Dressage: our best test to date, by far! He was soft and uphill, relaxed and loose even in the mud pie footing! Didn't get his full lengthens in trot or canter because I didn't want to push him in the footing, and our sloppy canter transitions were sticky because of the footing as well. I couldn't be more thrilled with our test, and am looking forward to improving our dressage even more! We were tied for 4th with a 37.3 after dressage, and moved up to 1st after one of the very few double clear stadium rounds in our division. XC day we checked out the footing on course and it looked great for how much rain we got, and I was prepared to pull if I felt him take even one funny step. I was so nervous I cried on my way down to the start box, but once we got on course, it was all business. :) He was EFFING PHENOMENAL. Forward but came back to me on a dime, balanced, rhythmic, focused, and careful! He saved my ass over a few fences where I ran him at them and he got a little flat but he's become so strong in the hind end that he can take off long or close and still clear the fences easily. The harder questions that I was most nervous for rode the best! The first water complex, the coffin, the skinny at the bottom of the hill, and the corner all rode BEAUTIFULLY! We won our first training on our dressage score of 37.3!!!!! He was really on the money the whole weekend, and it was the most rewarding experience of my life, to know all our hard work came together in one of the most stressful situations, with the weather and the footing and the challenging courses and the moveup itself! Basically, I am so blessed to have this horse and I don't know what I would do without him. He's taught me so much and he gives me EVERYTHING every time I get on him, yet I feel like I've taught him some too. He is everything to me and this weekend shows why :) Thank you Brego, for the best weekend of my life, and I can't wait for many more!
So the plan for next year is to run training all year, and I'm hoping to qualify for the T3D at Inavale and if we don't show there, then the T3D at Galway. Already qualified for 2011 champs at training level! YAY! So def gonna do that well depending on where it is. Planning to do March Twin, April Ram Tap, and May Woodside in the spring, POSSIBLY February Ram Tap depending on how the weather is this winter. Let me know if you're going to any of those!
ps. i LOVE my barn!
