The Bhopal disaster or Bhopal gas tragedy was an industrial disaster that took place at a Union Carbide subsidiary pesticide plant in the city of Bhopal, India. On 3 December 1984, the plant released 42 tonnes of toxic methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas, exposing more than 500,000 people to toxic gases. The first official imm...ediate death toll was 2,259. A more probable figure is that 8,000 died within two weeks, and it is estimated that an additional 8,000 have since died from gas-related diseases.

  • I am sure there are other plants in India very similar to this, uneducated people manning these complicated machines, no training and sloppy attitude and ignorance ...I hate to say this. You see it everywhere in india, NOBODY cares until something disastrous happens...When will the government face up to these challenges and deal with it??

  • hw will the common man know that the govt is shutting off all safety measures and the fact that what he believes to be a safe n secure plant is actually the deathbed for thousands of ppl?

  • Moti Singh, who was the District Collector of Bhopal at the time of gas leak, has said that Anderson was arrested at around 2 pm on December 7 but he was released the same day and flew out of Bhopal in a state government plane to New Delhi.

Singh claims the then Chief Secretary of the state government ordered him to release Anderson.

  • The documents show Anderson's quick release was ordered by the Central government of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. With elections weeks away, the Centre felt the Madhya Pradesh government was overly eager to score political points against Union Carbide.

  • 25,000 people killer:-

Rajiv govt freed Warren Anderson: CIA papers

  • the deaths actually crossed over 20,000 by now.

  • The alarm systems which is said to be installed is not at all present. It is reporte that there is no siren or distress call when gas leaked. This is heights of negligence
