Nothing like skiing in the trees, in the freshies (for fresh powder, as we say in America). What a spectacular day; it had snowed quite a bit the days before; (this footage was taken Feb 17 2008). We started down Escapade; the secret entrance to The Light was well hidden. The trees were bent down from the snow accumulation and the snow depth underfoot was easily 1.5 meters. We had to crouch down in the entrance to avoid hitting our heads on the overhanging tree branches. With us was Carlos, from Brazil; this was his 7th day on skis! Kudos for Carlos, for his bravery and surprising athletic skills. This 'fusion zone' off-piste locale is NO easy deal, even for many advanced skiers. This video features Timo who much prefers fast, smooth and straight icy racing terrain for his GS skis. However, he's on Head Monsters here, a surprisingly good all-mountain ski that met with his approval.

Some of the off-piste (off-trail) skiing in Killington is quite good. Although it lacks the enormous vertical common to many European resorts, it's different from traditional eastern trail skiing. There's more challenging terrain at Killington, where trees are often less than 2 meters apart and the steepness exceeds 33 degrees. With hidden roots, branches, rocks, stumps, anyone can hook a ski tip, spin around right into a standing tree. Some of Killington's "Fusion zones" are mellow, others are quite challenging. The Light, featured here is moderate to relatively easy. but can throw a few tricks at ya! Easier tree skiing can be had at Killington's "Squeeze Play" on Rams Head Mtn; more challenging tree skiing at "Low Rider" and Patsy's (Snowdon Mtn); quite extremely difficult at "Anarchy" and lower "Julio" (Killington Peak East)
