That's how I did the glowing heart: A simple animated light within her chest, the rest was done by my custom Fake SSS Material.

Actually it is just an animated light parented to her torso bone, compaired with some sort of Fake-SSS that I have put together via Nodes. It actually is the good old »Inverted Normal« Trick compaired with rim lighting and the Detail-UV-Texture for the Skin. So if I'd put very strong lamp directly behind her, she would have the same glow where ever that light would shine through.

For demonstration purpose I recorded the Effect/Material standalone and put a strong light directly behind her (of course, that makes the effect to strong to imitate believable SSS).
