This inverted pendulum uses a reaction wheel to maintain balance. Much like a satellite implementing a reaction wheel for attitude control. We built it as a final project for our robotics class. I'll try to post a better video of the Pendulum.

    i thought reaction wheels can only rotate an object around its center of mass, but cant do translational movement

  • Yes, that is true. Reaction wheels are used on satellite for attitude (heading) control. A satellite can use reaction wheels to rotate so that it can face a certain location (maybe for taking a picture). But yes you are right, they can not be used for translational movement.
