So beautiful! Klezmer music is mesmerizing It goes right to the heart. You want to get up and dance, but deep down, it seems there is a touch of melancholy. I was wondering if any one agrees with me. Itzhak Perlman performance and words are truly touching. I love Klezmer music!

I grew up with Klezmer and ancient hebrew music, Itzhak got right into his childhood back-ground.

I agree with you. I'm Italian and I love the Italian folk songs, and some of them are melancholy behind the joyous sound. I find the same thing in Klezmer. It is more entrancing than the Italian music. In both, however, a deep, soulful connection to the home country. I enjoy both very much.

Indeed, Jewish history unfortunately includes many persecutions from the Inquision to Crusades, to Cossacks, to Nazis. Hence the melancholy that you perceive. There is also love and joy in the music, as he is singing of his wife, children, family, friends.
