watch high quality version!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DklLzilyUng&&fmt=18

I could hear the wild screams of the crowd from my bedroom that night after Obama got the presidency. I was planning on turning in early, but from the commotion I knew something was brewing, so I grabbed my camera and set out in a flash. I walked just a block from my place to St. Mark's and avenue A and the entire street was a madhouse. It really brought the best out in everyone. Hugging, high-fiveing, dancing and singing. Nobody felt like a stranger...

I really hope that those that did not vote Obama can watch this with equal enthusiasm and at the very least appreciate the very honest sense of optimism that this event gave to so many people.

  • Ya Obama! But what has he actually done so far but pay lip service, talk with charm, and be black? Dentention center in Cuba, ah, maybe not gonna happen how he said after all. Ending the war in Iraq, ya... maybe it was a bit premature to say when we can pull them out... Freedom of the people, Yes we can continue with the Patriot act chipping away at your rights and freedoms. So far just another politician with the same bullshit agenda spun another way. Actions, not words, ACTION

  • Dude, you are like the freaking Grinch. This video is not just about Obama, but the way a whole community of strangers came together through ecstatic celebration. The night, as I'm sure is evident through the vid, was uncanny in the way that it unified so many, and should be appreciated for that alone... I am very critical of many of Obama's choices so far, but he has a huge mess on his hands from GWB, and is so much better than any alternative could have been...

  • Vad: The community coming together in celebration is great. They do it for baseball, football, the Olympics and more. I hope they will all come together again in order to force Obama to do what he said he would in order to get elected. Bush did leave a mess, but continuing with the Patriot Act and other policy's from Bush is not fixing anything. The song should have been, "We are the lesser of all evils my friends", cus so far, I don't see any champ, but only lip service.

    The Grinch

  • Ha. Ok, I agree up to a point. The patriot act needs to go and there are a handful of platforms (gay rights, Iraq, etc) that I want to see him live up to. I believe he has to choose his battles with acumen though and being that it's still early in his presidency I'm optimistic that we will see more "action" as time progresses. I've witnessed the most ecstatic celebrations of the biggest of sports victories, Y2K, and the like. This was entirely different... (cont.)

  • Lastly, if you really watch the end, my point was that despite all of the joyful celebration, that the state of things would not allow us to stay in that mode. That we had our party and it was quickly time to sober up and face the challenges that lie ahead of us... I just hope you recognize that and don't take it to be some kind of sycophant-ish pandering to Obama and his blind ass-kissers. I dig the guy, but I wouldn't be that much of a toady... Later, Mr. Grinch.

  • Excellent! What kind of camera did you use?

  • A canon HV20 with the aperture setting low to let in more light... good times.

  • Obama!

  • Damn you vadim, making me cry all over again.

    Actually, over a week later, and I still mist up. I am so proud of us. And to quote Michelle Obama-- and I mean it exactly the way it is-- "Fo the first time in my life, I am proud of America."

  • Excellent work Vadim! I went out with my cam that night looking to record history, instead I went on an Obender and passed out by midnight. I'm a little jealous.

  • incredible! great work.
