  • Lemeshev never drunk, he was already ill when he sang this concert. Do you know that he had just one lung? The other one did not function since the end of the second world war because of a tuberculosis. So he is an absolutely hero, and I repeat, he NEVER drunk.

  • Dear younglemeshevist: Thank you for your answer. Yes, it does seem to be the 60's, doesn't it. And you are absolutely right. I have seldom if ever heard a more silvery, beautiful, freely produced tenor voice. Reminds me of the great bel canto tenors of the West, such as Lauri Volpi. What a magnificent tenor Lemeshev was!

  • @MrSkylark1 I am totally agree with You! LEMESHEV IS THE GREATEST TENOR OF ALL THE TIMES!!!!!

    Evviva Sergey Lemeshev!!!

  • @MusicalPhantom08 Tchaikovsky wrote two romances entitled "Night": Op. 60 No. 9 (1886), to a poem by Polonsky, and this, Op. 73 No 2 (1893), to a poem by Daniel Maximovitch Rathhaus (1868-1937), who was 25 when this song was published.

  • LEMESHEV, even with one lung was and is superior to all the professional singers today

  • @MusicalPhantom08 Look at imslp.org

This is the second romance of the Six Romances, Op. 73. It's titled Noch (Night), but Tchaikovsky also wrote another composition with the same title (for SATB and piano), so make sure you get the right one.

  • Where can I find the sheet music for this piece? I've looked ALL over and cannot find it. What did Tchaikovsky label this piece as? Is it Night or You Return to Me?

  • Awesome

  • Лемешев наше ВСЕ!!!...

  • It is amazing that at this age and after the trials of his life, that he still sounds so fresh!

  • Such dignity and emotion. Thank you for this treasure!

  • Desideria7-As one living with one lung as well as the other one full of COPD as well-I can only marvel at this performance. He is now even more so a hero. He is surely the finest Russian tenor of all time.
