Here is my little comparo of these two lights, the O-Light rated at 2200 lumens VS the eBay HID 38/50w rated at 4500 lumens.
As you'll see in the video 2200 lumens is brighter than 4500 lumens...
Why is it so?
Proper reflector design with a big enough reflector to capture all the light in the O-Light VS the rubbish cheap reflector of the HID light.
And I would guess that the figures for the HID are manufacturer rated in a perfect world and no where near reality.

  • You say there are better ways to spend your 200.00....where are you finding the sr-90 for 200.00? Everywhere I look they are 400.00.

  • @helipilot27 I was talking about the 50w HID that cost about $200.00 + postage.

The SR-90 was $450.00 and it was worth it.

  • I've also had the reflector haze over after a few minutes use so I tried to clean it and removed the silver plating on one spot however the reflector design is so bad that this has made no discernible difference to output. The focus feature on mine is supported by an oversize O-ring between the bezel and head, the thread on the bezel slides right over the thread on the head. My o-ring snapped instantly and now it's head together with teflon tape. Really bad light

  • I would really like to see a video of the same light hitting targets 600m away because mine is nowhere near capable of that, I have no doubt the POB 35w could do it because it's got a proper reflector but I have serious doubts about the generic 50w doing it. My DX 39820, D-Mini VX ultra with turbo head and Xeno G42 all out throw this light.

The battery is great but I've had one charger die already so I now actively cool the charger whilst charging

  • My 38/50w light in this video was being pointed at a tree 266m away with almost no effective illumination. In fact when I shone my $20 DX 39820 over the HID's spot on the tree the hot spot from the cree was clearly visible overlaid in the HID's beam.

This was with dark adjusted eyes and none of the light pollution you get near buildings but rather in an open field.

  • im gettin my sr90 in five days ....i cant wait now that its getn darker sooner here in wash dc

  • Actually before purchasing the ebay 50W HID, my main concern is not the throw, but rather the batteries. We all know that some of the batteries are not "very usable" and the mAH capacity is grossly inflated. I did 2 full continuous burn time test for my new 50W HID, it did 73 mins and 76 mins. Front lens not cracked, batteries did not blow. The main tube containing the batteries did get too hot to touch for > 3 secs though (my ambient temperature was 29 deg C though).

  • Sorry, could not link the youtube video URL.

Pls search for Olight SR90 LED vs 35w HID spotlight, Texas CPF meet by

What I suspect is that you can still tune the hotspot size of your 50W HID somewhat, the center hotspot is "too small", from 0:15 - 0:24
