Hi Alien, stumbled on 8, im surprised you didnt strip the whole cabinet. paint stripper wont hurt the venner.just sand cabinet , grain fill , then clear , 0000 steel wool, then the car polish i mentioned , then oil cabinet. using a flat blade scrapper stainless steel , is easier than current tool. using old towels is good to remove excess. Pressure packs, would give a greater finish than the brush. If you do the rest of the cabinet go satin, as car polish will give a gloss and depth Regards Pete

I didn't think that the cabinet was in terrible shape. I am trying to stick with the line of thinking that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. My goal is not to make the radio look showroom new, but to save and restore what was already there.
I have used a cleaner with 0000 steel wool (coming up) and a refinishing compound with a hint of stain. It is a 60 year old radio, and I want it to look that way. I might try a whole cabinet job later on on another radio. Thanks for the tips.
