Hate Speech legislation is a monstrosity which we ought to abolish. Originally it was introduced by the Jewish lobby, in order to muzzle criticism of the Holocaust rhetoric, back in 1992, or thereabouts.

The problem isn't in letting Muslims *into* our country of course, but in failing to ask what kind of Muslim they are. You should ask, are they the kind of Muslim who believes in individual liberty? Seperation of church and state? You should ask, instead of what is the source of his beliefs, what does he actually believe? It is impossible to have a consistent legal system without accepting some beliefs, some ideas, some values, and rejecting others.

@selfvirt Yes, but the groups you mentioned aren't native to the British Isles. Muslim immigrants to Australia, for example, are not so much supplanting natives of that country (Aborigines), but the non-native white majority. I was objecting to Steyn's implication that whites are native to the West as a whole, when they're really only native to Europe.

@eier We have a large number of ethnic groups in Britain, so your point wouldn't really apply here. In particular, our Indian and Afro-Carribean groups don't often see eye-to-eye with Muslims.
