The group evolved from a four-piece instrumental group called the Fydallions, which formed in 1964 in Sacramento, California, for an Air Force talent contest. After leaving the Air Force, the band went on the road, playing five hour lounge jobs on the Las Vegas circuit. The Fydallions, now a quintet consisting of Dick Lopes (saxophone), Bobby Raymond (bass guitar), Harvey Kaye (keyboards), Vinnie Parello (drums), and Pat Upton (guitar and lead vocals).

This is one of the greatest songs of the 60's in the Phil, great to know that even the present generation of pinoys are enjoying the songs of Spiral Staircase. Just recently the original lead vocalist of the group was here in the Philippines he sang it and Our day will come and other hits. Mabuhay ayos ka chong.

This song was hot when I was a teenager in the late 60's and early 70's in USA. Great to see the young folks in the Phillipines enjoying a great song and Classic like this! They look happy, and that what was what this song made me feel back then
