  • 真正足讚也 from Taiwan

  • Great performance, but the translation is awful, especially during "gia la mensa e preparata" (II 5). Where the hell did the translator found "that's not Mozart" ?!

  • Where did you find this performance? It's priceless.

  • Bello spettacolo, tutti molto bravi, ma Dame Joan è addirittura grandiosa!!!!

  • @Agorante Siepi sang Don giiovanni in this production in 1966 and 1957(Met) and many other times in this same production with a different cast and conductor(at the Met, i mean).

  • How can it be that Morris never became identified with this part? I heard him with Varady at Covent Garden in Dutchman and both were sensational. But he went Wagnerian it seems. He sang Guglielmo often but never the Don again.

I've heard Giovanni with just about everyone live, on CDs or video. I've been working on digitizing the score for over a year. Trust me I have listened to everyone. This is a tragedy. Morris is the best DG since Siepi - maybe even better.

  • I remember this performance so well, in the theater and on TV. Some of the fans' facts below are incorrect. Sutherland sang quite a few Donna Annas in her day, her North Amer debut. Bonynge used a chamber orch long before ancient instruments became popular. James Morris was very much the star of this show all along. Sam Ramey wasn't even a blip on the Met's screen at this point, his debut six years later. Morris himself became a world famous Wagnerian, but not until 1985, 7 years later.

  • This was first Don I saw and thankful to see it again. I believe Samuel Raimey was ill and James Morris was a last minute replacement. This was what really got his career going. Maybe Sutherland doesn't own this role but that glorious voice owns the opera. Hard to believe it comes from a person.

  • What a wonderful record of this production. I have the later broadcasts with Ramey and Vannes and then Terfel and Fleming. This is wonderful addition to these later performances.
