This is how I make my Cricut mats sticky again. I've had the same mats for over two years now & still going!!!
Note: I recommend the Martha Stewart large chisel tip glue pen for this. I've used the Zig pen, but they do not seem to keep my mats sticky nearly as long as the Martha Stewart brand adhesive (this actually applies to all projects...Martha Stewart wins over Zig all around IMHO!)

  • Good tips. You can also use a credit card to scrape the glue. It is not as thin as the spatula, but gives a bigger area to use.

  • @1jmass AH, WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!! That's awesome...I'm gonna try that next time I restick them! Thanks so much for the tip! :o)

  • have you every tried goo b gone to remove the glue... it rocks! thanks for the video. :)

  • @rebatw I've used Goo Gone for other stuff & I agree, it is awesome! Great idea to use it to remove the adhesive on the mats, but I wouldn't try it on anything plastic. I learned that the hard way cuz I made the mistake of using Goo Gone on one of my Rock-a-Blocks & it ruined it...melted the top layer completely off!!!. :(

I'm actually gonna do a video about how my husband fixed that for me (thank G-d for handy hubby's)!!!

Do you use Goo Gone on your Cricut mats?

  • I do restick my mats for my Cricut and my Pazzles Inspiration. It works perfectly maybe even better. TFS!

  • @mississchic Yeh, I think it definitely makes it stick much longer than when I first bought the mats brand new!

  • It looks like you are doing a lot of work scraping. I think you should check out the video here for stick away and stick & spray. It looks like it just dissolves that stuff off in an instant. I haven't tried it but I plan to. I hate working too hard if I don't have to. Thanks for the video!

  • Yep saves you money and keeps some of the plastic out of landfills right? Love your vid. Thanks for posting. I had stored my mat for a long time but when I peeled off the plastic protec. sheet.. off came some of the glue in patches. Didn't know how to remove it without damging the mat. Thanks again. Good vid!

  • Great tip about the MS glue pens...I'm going to have to try that. Have you tried soaking in warm soapy water to loosen the adhesive before scraping? Hmmm. I may try this next time I need to restick my mats. TFS!

  • they now have Goo Gone2 which is good on plastic and odor is not so strong! recommend it. cost me like 7 bucks at home depot for a big spray bottle.
