Eclecticity
Belliingham, WA.
From the album "Soul" this is the song The Irv.
Inspired by a young man and a notebook, completed by a community. Samuel Eisen-Meyers is a 19-year-old guitar player from Portland, OR, with a vision to make music. In the fall of 2010, while taking part in his freshman year at University, he found Frank Vitolo and Kwabena Amoah-Forson in Bellingham, WA. They were all attending school. Frank was in the jazz program, and Kwabi could play the heck out of the bongos. (He also had a voice that could cure souls.) Samuel was raised on Funk, soul, hip-hop and blues. Frank was raised on Jazz, along with everything else. Kwabi grew up listening to strictly reggae. (And gosh, did he know his history) Samuel had the opportunity to open for The Roots in Portland playing guitar for Lilla D'mone. This happened right before winter quarter started, and gave him the vision, drive and hope to construct an Album. "Don't worry fellas," Samuel would constantly reiterate this to Frank and Kwabi, "we'll find a crew and get going soon." After many nights of jamming in the dorm rooms and playing downtown on the street, they were all wondering if anything would get started. And sure enough, Matt Pollock came along. Matt was in the music program as well, and focused primarily on Tuba but could jam like he meant it on the bass guitar. He was in, and he dug getting together to share the music. Samuel than ran into a vocalist named Christian Correa at an open mic night, and after some phone calls, they had begun jamming together. Christian had a kind heart and lived through his art. Next came Jimmy, Jimmy and Samuel met outside the practice rooms at school, and Samuel needed help learning some standards. They wound up jamming for a few hours, and made the decision to connect soon. Jimmy could play the heck out of the bone and was in the jazz program with Frank. Almost every other night, they could be found in the practice rooms shedding amongst one another. Without a drummer, the sound still wasn't full. However Christian Casolary finally gave in after Samuel kept bumping into him with the notion of eventually getting together to create. He was very busy in the jazz program, and was doing a lot of drumming outside of school. After many phone calls and brief conversations about jamming, Samuel got him into the main practice rooms at school, along with his drum kit. Christian was a phenomenal player in the jazz program, who could play anything he wanted. On this night E-clec-ti-ci-ty formed. Frank, Kwabi, Jimmy, Matt, Samuel and Christian got that jam they had all been waiting for. A chance to let loose. A chance to share and communicate. There were still two ingredients missing; Sheldon Botler and Justin Smith. Justin Smith equaled the biggest Organ and Keys consumer on the West Coast. Justin and Samuel first jammed in late July in Bellingham. Since than Samuel couldn't imagine anyone he'd rather be playing with. With a handful of makeshift charts and an agenda, Samuel came to Justin. Justin was in, and starting February 13th, they had one month to get the album down. Running into Sheldon Botler was like finding a needle in a haystack. A talented vocalist with a genuine kind hearted soul. (Who just so happened to have a love for audio engineering, a talented love) Samuel showed him some music he was doing and what he was about, and they two collaborated and e-mailed for a while until two recording dates were set. This was the vision, and it was set. Samuel called Frank, Jimmy, Christian, Christian, Matt and Kwabi, and everyone could make it to the studio on February 27th and March 7th. After 20 hours of practice, 20 hours in the studio, and many days of mixing, all the different genres and backgrounds of the group were creatively transferred to the electronic world. When all was said and done, this was an outlet from the Bureaucracy of Academia, where each musician was able to get a taste of the passion. Too make a long story short, "This album is about community and giving everyone a chance to be heard. We're young, we have a passion, and we want to share our music with the world. Every song attempts to tell a story and give background to a contemporary feeling or issue. The time and passion that was put into this project made our souls come to surface, and taught us that music is a key element of life."
