Being an American hockey fan, and seeing that starting 5 was the best we had to offer against a HOF Canadian squad, USA hockey has come a long way. Forget the game vs. the USSR in 1980, had the Americans won this game, this would've been just as big miracle on ice

@Tubewings ...and growing up in L.A. at the time (born in 1966 and raised in Northridge, CA in the San Fernando Valley) I was (and still am) a HUGE Kings fan and I wanted to be a great goaltender and I idolized Rogie Vachon when I was a kid, and even wore a Rogie Vachon game jersey (home version, Gold and Forum Blue) to every Kings game. I even have a (slightly-damaged) circa-1978 Victoriaville Rogie Vachon-pattern goal stick, and it proudly hangs up on my wall in my home office to this day.

@HockeyMetalRPG Actually, Rogie Vachon was playing for the Los Angeles Kings at that time, but he did play for Le Bleu Blanc et Rouge at one time (and even won a couple of Stanley Cups with them).

I've rented a DVD box-set of that tournament. It was great to watch those games that i've just heard about it besause i was to young then.
I'm a proud canadian. But frankly, a few canadian players showed so little sportmanship. In fact it was kind of shameful the way they acted: high stick, slashing, intimidation...well Bill Barber acted like a real goon...a real animal!

gotta love those American jerseys though

All the starting lineup for Canada are Montreal Canadiens, what does that tell ya???
It tells me they were playing in Montreal that night.

Too bad Dryden (who had cartilage removed from his knee during the Summer) wasn't on Team Canada 1976. They went with a Montreal starting line-up but they had to settle for the former Canadien instead. "Team The United States"....talk about lambs to the slaughter!
