It would be much better to do this for OpenStreetMap than give Google the data for free so they can lock it away.

Google Map Maker data is accessible through Google Maps and through the API, I believe. They are doing their best to get it out to the public, and as someone who has traveled through some of these countries where Map Maker is available, I think this is a great initiative! I don't know what iron legal curtain you're talking about.

Terrible to see good user generated content being locked away behind an iron legal curtain at Google. I thought you were meant to do no evil?

I would say, that comments should be edited "Map your sweet home.." as personal information is not allowed in Google Map Maker.. ;)
