Seven months after the Canada Revenue Agency and Revenue Quebec said they would process amended income tax returns for refunds on tax paid on fictitious interest the former clients heard nothing but excuses. A meeting was called by the EJVOrgCom with local tax authorities in Montreal to resolve the issue.
Unfortunately the tax man had changed its mind and declared the former clients would not get the anticipated refunds. The alternative solution they offered was clearly half-baked and did not address the central issue: An individual is not required to pay income tax on money they did not earn. That is what happens in a Ponzi scheme. The problem was, the Tax Act does not include a provision for Ponzi schemes.
The accountants and EJVOrgCOm flatly rejected the local tax authority's half-baked solution and lobbied for a meeting with the Minister of National Revenue and the Director of the Canada Revenue Agency in Ottawa.
