before I get bashed, I KNOW this can cause harm to dreads and there is a risk in using this method, as I explain in the video, I'm very careful about my methods and say multiple times that if you feel hair being ripped or pulled then you should try it a different way.
I'm more aesthetically concerned about my dreads so this is a risk I'm willing to take.
To my watchers: I got the sound problem prettymuch fixed :) and also Im sorry at how long it it, I didn't look at the time until the end (and it was at 19 minutes!) so I did some cutting down, and hopefully it's not still too long.
1:39 is about the crochet hook and basic technique
6:00 is getting into pulling loose hair back into dreads
7:49 is when I get into actually tightening the dread all the way down
11:48 is the wrap up
(this is where I remind you to keep the hook facing you thumb or towards your head so that you are pulling towards your head and not away.
also that you should be pulling your hair from the inside of the dread, not the outer layer, and that it shouldn't hurt or pull or break your hair, otherwise you're doing it wrong)
so make sure you comment your critiques, hopefully it helped and have a nice day :)

  • Some one told me my hair is too soft to dread... Does softness really have to do with dreads??

  • @Ophelialife I don't think so. I often get compliments on how soft my dreads are. When initially dreading, it's always easier if your hair has a little bit of texture, so sure, your hair may be too soft for certain techniques of dreading, but that just means you have to find the method that works best for you. There are all sorts of methods that you can try out and as long as you aren't damaging the hair in any way, your dreads will turn out just as beautiful as the next guys :P

  • DAAAMN you are HOTTTT. Dreads are the bomb aint they. I got a dread sculpta from the HQ.. Anyways what is the song playing at the beginning of your video.

  • when I dreaded my hair, it got all short and it didn't keep its length. Why did it do that?

  • NOOOO! DO NOT crochet hook them! Can you say DAMAGE?

  • Wow, didn't know you had so many views Katie! Congratz! Nice video too :D

  • @OutcastAngelV Probably the best way to go about it is twist and rip. There's an Awesome video on how to do it by 2SVJ7 'how to make dreadlocks'

it takes a little time but you get a solid product immediately, a handful of mine are twist and rip, and I honestly wish they all were. It makes for beautiful and fast maturing dreads in soft, silky or 'white' hair.
