This antenna design uses only two coat hangers -- a third the material of the popular yagi design -- yet it is very powerful! When mounted on a block, it is also easy to rotate, which makes tuning a breeze. The antenna receives both VHF and UHF signals, but using the largest dimensions gives it a stronger tuning in the lower VHF range

  • If you live in the USA, you get better reception if you increase the whisker length from 6.5" to about 8.5".

  • @monkeyman1140 Good to know. Eventually, I'll replace the whiskers on mine and see if there's any signal boost on certain frequencies, then report back.

  • I just put the loop on top of my 8 whiskers (secured by the two top ones) coat hanger antenna just to see if if improved reception... It didn't :(

  • @amazingdany Sorry it didn't help. It really only helps my setup when used as a separate antenna that can be moved around to another position from the main antenna -- to catch those channels broadcast from a different direction, I suppose.

  • Is it wired in parallel or series with the antenna you are boosting and what is the phasing?

  • @supressorgrid It's in series. Basically, it's just an additional group of semi-tuned receiving elements tacked on to whatever other antenna is attached. The worst effect I've noticed on a channel is no effect at all.

  • Have you tried a fractal antenna design based on the Kock Snowflake fractal?

I like the fact that it could be made out of one length of wire.

  • The transmitters range from 5 miles to 60 miles away. The stations that are 60 miles away only come through in clear weather. The reception for each station varies from bad to excellent. I currently use this antenna as a boost for the coathanger yagi, because I'd rather have more stations than keep a small antenna footprint.

  • Excellent video...thank you for your effort.

  • How far are you from your local transmitters? What's your signal strengths for your stations in both bands(UHF/VHF)?
