That is a second part of Chinese TV cable CCTV10 translated by longdoydoy.

#1
In 2000, Fei and Zhang Nan were recruited into the national team.
As Nan had very soon shown her significance in the team; Fei wasn't noticeable at all, she went over and over her basic skills. Once, Fei was left forgotten in the training hall.
Fei: I was young, in my mind u stop training only if your coach says class dismissed.

#2
He went out for some matters and forgotten that he didn't dismiss the class. I did notice that it was time to stop (Fei was then exclusively trained by Lu) but I kept going until so exhausted that I went looking for him and said that I've done all the steps. He looked at me and said "U were still training? Oh my I've forgotten about u!" Then 12 years old, Fei already understood that the cornerstone of success was solid basic skills and that getting a big break was important to her.

#3
Fei: Those that were recruited at the same time as me, even some that were after me, were already competing in world championships. I was thinking that I'd fallen behind, I even had the thoughts that the national team might reject me.
Coach Lu: Fei and Zhang Nan came in together. Fei was younger than the rest. Zhang Nan, being older and more seasoned with higher standards naturally had shown results in a short time.

#4
Fei made her name earlier but it had nothing to do with gymnastics. (Fei performed onstage in Spring Festival with famous traditional song)
Fei: People were saying that this little girl was so unique, why did she pick that song? I was just happened to have heard that song many times and being young, I just picked that song for the festival performance.

In the national team, Fei's coaches, Lu and Liu, were the ones that produced gymnasts like Liu Xuan. They found that Fei was at a caliber that was worthy of special nurture.

#5
Lu: We had wanted to select a gymnast and concentrate on her with all our years of experiences, we selected Fei and she became our protegee. Great efforts was given to her, her training was especially refined.

With Fei's powerful legs and her hard training, her basic skills had reached a point that Lu let her seek breakthrough in the 2 events that had always been Chinese Team's weak points, the vault and the fx.
Fei: Because with my category based on my strong points, I could never beat anyone at BB and UB.

#6
Therefore, I concentrated in vaulting and fx to reach for high standards and difficulties, so that I would have a chance in the Olympics.

At the Athens Olympics, Fei earned to compete in the fx finals by getting 2nd place in the prelims, with a high difficulty fx routine. Regrettably, due to mistakes, she ended up with a 4th placement. With this result, not many noticed her.
After Athens, Lu prepared Fei for her breakthrough. The technique she was working on was in actuality derived from Li Xiao Peng's vault.

#7
Lu started to experiment with incorporating the power and difficulties of male gymnasts into the women gymnasts' arsenal (with Fei's powerful legs).
Lu: Fei mastered the skill quickly, we could see it after just 20 minutes into it; but that didn't surprise us because Fei had such high level of basic skills. The magnitude of her basics was more than enough to master it.

During the 1st half of 2005, Fei successfully mastered the skill after 1 year of training.

#8
Due to the overall strength of the women's team then, she didn't choose to perform "Cheng Fei Vault" in the Nanjing Gymnastic Meet in October.
With a vault gold medal from that meet on her belt, Fei competed in the Asian Games; at this point, the Chinese Team submitted "Cheng Fei Vault" to Federation International of Gymnastics. As ruled, when a new technique is executed successfully at the 3 major events; the Olympics, the World Championships and the World's Cup,

#9
it will be officially named after the performing athlete.
However, the Asian Games is not considered an international event; Lu and Fei had not planned to prematurely introduce the "Cheng Fei Vault". Incidentally, a mysterious North Korean gymnast was the reason for them to make that final decision.

Fei: We didn't plan to use it but circumstance presented itself and we perceived we should give it a go and also that this could be a chance for a good experience not to be missed.

#10
Under the watchful eyes of the audience and Coach Lu, for the very first time, Fei performed the "Cheng Fei Vault" in a major competition; with high difficulty, the 180 degree back flip twist, followed by a 540 degree extended front twisting flip, was attempted.
