Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) hold press conference in Washington, DC

Friday March 14th, 2008

This month, for four days in Washington, DC, beginning on March 13, there will be a second Winter Soldier gathering -- 37 years after the first. Organized by the protest group Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), US veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan since the 9/11 attack on New York will testify about their experiences.

They will present photographs and videos, recorded with mobile phones and digital cameras, to back up their allegations -- of brutality, torture and murder.

The veterans are not against the military and seek not to indict it -- instead they seek to shine a light on the bigger picture: that the Abu Ghraib prison regime and the Haditha massacre of innocent Iraqis are not isolated incidents perpetrated by "bad seeds" as the military suggests, but evidence of an endemic problem. They will say they were tasked to do terrible things and point the finger up the chain of command, which ignores, diminishes or covers up routine abuse and atrocities.

  • Thank all who have returned to try to tell the truth to Americans, though I think most of us have understood that this is what is going on.

While Halliburton delivers dangerous water to the soldiers.

  • Now now now the truth comes out. And where's the network media?; nowhere to be found. They're rattling the sabers for another illegal war. All the while the big bankers and defense contrators are robbing the taxpayers blind.

  • 4 people watch too much news!

  • @tomermoderchai anyway, enough of these politic stuff, tune in my channel n hear c if u like the noise...: )

  • @tomermoderchai ...and they're not robots. but there u go, as i mentioned earlier, it is a real pity that they have to serve under the power of crooked politicians.

  • @tomermoderchai A war/fight can be legal and illegal. For example, the invasion of my country by the japanese in WW2 was illegal and the fight of my country and the allies against them on the other hand is legal as we were defending our country. Saddam is a 'bad' person to bush and many, but Bush is also 'a bad' person to many too. But that doesn;t give any right for saddam to invade the US does it. I know that not all of the US armed forces kill civ intentionally,

  • @stratshredder (from below) because they were in a building the Taliban were firing from, when the soldiers returned fire, unaware of these 'civillians' being in the building. Which part do you think made the news? Not the good, the bad. And these people out there that have no real opinion of these wars watch a 30 second news clip, which is always negative, and decide these wars are bad. Based on essentially nothing. These wars are hell, but at the end of the day it WILL improve world stability.

  • @stratshredder (from below). Ofcourse there is Evidence, but tell me a war when there was a 'clean war'. The problem with the world is, the GOOD things that happen in Afghanistan and Iraq, is the media NEVER reports on teh good thing. For example, the Australian military in Afghanistan are re building infrastucture, training electricians, and builders, creating jobs for Afghan people for the last 9 years, however, 3 'civllians' alledgedly were killed in a firefight recently.....

  • @stratshredder (from below) who fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, I can see why they do it, but at the end of the day they are the enemy fighting against what I (may) believe in and I will attempt to kill them. Terrorism is when you delieberatly try and kill civillians for political motivation or gain. I think you are misguided to think a large majority of the US Armed Forces would like to kill civillians. They are not robotic monsters, they are real people, with wives and kids....

  • @stratshredder. No, I would fight if anyone invaded my country. You may like to think the war is 'illegal' (how can any war ever be legal anyway???), but at the end of the day, Saddam Hussein was a bad person, who was a threat against the US and its Allies, regardless of how soon you thought that threat was. And I hold nothing against what the Muhajudeen do. The problem is where to draw the line against your beliefs vs Political persuasion. Hence why I hold nothing against the Muhajadeen.....

  • @tomermoderchai Youare right, no bodydoes anythng for nothing but in the case of the invasion, this is the problem, it is illegal from the start. I bet even u would not agree if any country invade ur country as what the US did. This is the issue, that, they have to pull out now. Asfor the bad apples, there aremany clear evidnnce of misconducts of the USarmed forces against the people of iraq. In my opinionthey are the realterrorst. Its a pity that they bcome tools of Bush n his murdering co.

  • @stratshredder. I think that was one of the reasons they invaded it yes. And ofcourse they did it for their own benifits, NO BODY does something for nothing. As for the invasion itself, it could have been handled much better. As for the intentional killings, you get bad apples in every bunch, I dont think its fair to label the US Armed Forces as having a core problem, just because there were a few terrible incidents.
