I never had a garage (apartment living all my life) so I have to ask: Dont the doors have sensors to see if anything is in the path of the door so they wont close or open up if they feel resistance? I've seen some doors with that or alarms to let you know that something is blocking the door.

Most modern garage doors have sensors, but older garage doors don't. Since this happened in 1991, the garage door was likely from 80's or before. The garage doors at every house I've lived in haven't had censors, but they stop closing and open back up if they meet resistance before closing all the way.

they have probably added that as a safety feature.just like in some minivans on the road with a power sliding door,get something stuck in it and it opens back up automatically.

thats because now every garage door has a laser-sensor that will sense when something moves through it while its closing and go back up so that people don't get crushed/stuck

This happened to me when I was 5 years old and I was ome alone! I was stuck under it and it hurt like crap! I was screaming and no one would come, but when I was just about to pass out I saw a neighbor. Luckily I had the front door unlocked!
