Morgan Lucas and Steve Faria have a couple of nasty engine explosions in night time qualifying during the 2010 NHRA Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Morgan Lucas has a very bad fire burning even after the car is stopped burning the car and the ground.

  • I was at there for the full 4 day event. Saturday's rounds 3 & 4 for top fuel qualifying had some serious delays and I agree with Flexfuel306 that the oildowns were painful. Friday qualifying sessions went pretty good with only a few delays. I was told they ran cars on Saturday until 11 pm to get caught up and started early on Sunday as well. I left on Sat at 7pm.However,they were right on track for the Sunday Finale. I love all classes but as a spectator I came to see the 6 ft nitro flames.

  • @alaskaerjs That was my point earlier, as a spectator you went for Top Fuel and FC, but you did point out you like all classes. People who go to the drags for the thrill of watching Top Fuel cars need to realize that without classes like Super Stock, Super Gas, Competition and all the other "less popular" classes, there would be no drag racing. Not only is that where the drivers' make their way up from but they also make up the numbers for the event. If they didn't run, the event wouldn't run.

  • Worst NHRA event I've ever been to because of this exact BS. Oil down after oil down it was freaking stupid.

Won't be going back to Vegas next year if they don't stop this crap.

  • @Flexfuel306 You can't really say that, first of all, the NHRA does not want this to happen at all, the reason why there is a penalty for oiling down the track.

Also the teams definitely don't want this to happen, this is their precious parts that they are damaging, and races that they might be losing, they are out there not only for you but also their sponsors.

These teams are pushing their cars to the limit because it is very tough out there, everyone wants to win.

  • Well, as a die hard NHRA fan and supporter, I think I'm entitled to my opinion, and the number of oil downs in Vegas was downright ludicrous. As a sportsman racer myself, I know that no one wants to oil the track, but when it takes 8 hours to finish two qualifying sessions because of oil downs, that's when you know there's a problem. NHRA realized this and brought back the oil down penalties, which I don't understand why they were removed in the first place.

    Hopefully the penalties will help.

  • @Flexfuel306 You do have a point, and I didn't know that they had got rid of the penalties for an oil down. 8 hours is ridiculous for two qualifying sessions. They got rid of funny cars here in Australia because of that reason, too many dramas and oil downs. Although the class is looking strong again here. No way they could do that over there though, the nitro classes are what people want, all the other racers just fill in the gaps, which is sad, but without them there would be no racing.

  • @68SSCAM having arrived from England Ive noticed most people leave after topfuel or funnycar. Top Alcohol is very good and cant understand why people leave. (especially seeing a world record from Tony Bartone.) I watch till the whole show has finished.
