Tomatoes are easy to grow from the seed, and they do very well when grown in a container indoors. Make sure a new tomato plant has plenty of warmth and light with helpful information from a sustainable gardener in this free video on growing food.

@YTSparty You can cover the pots with plastic or glas jars or whatever so they can be warmer and even wrap cloth around the pot maybe?

@YTSparty You'd be better off buying them; the cost of electricity outweighs the savings. UNLESS - you are putting SEVERAL plants into your garden OR you want to get a jump start on the season. Starting tomatoes from seed is the WAY TO GO if you want tomatoes before everyone else. Use heirloom seeds if possible: that way you'll be able to harvest the seeds and save some money.

I have a question. I want to grow some tomato and pepper plants before the last frost. But I keep the heat very low in the house. And peppers and tomatoes require very warm germination temperatures, well above 75 degrees.
I'm looking for a way to germinate the seeds without paying too much for electricity in heating them. Tomato plants are about $3-4 from the store, if I could grow them from seeds for less, I'd rather do that as well as grow several plants.
