interesting..this new new icon set appears to use the haze icon in place of smoke. it seems with each icon update, they're reducing the amount of icons..
-
I like that icon and the way he says smokey skies :D

@socool775 That's because the meteorologists at your NWS office agreed that it was an error and removed it before issuing the climate reports. In every climate report, anything can be corrected before released to the public.

I swear I remember hearing narration somewhere else that said "with smokey conditions." There also was a icon used for smoke and dust (a sun with brown dust blowing in front of it), but it looks like they just use the haze icon for it now on this set.

It looks rather similar to the haze icon. Nice catch, I never knew "smoke" had narration.

that's weird I have not seen that before. Thanks for the video and great catch!
Your airport reported the smoke as it's in the METAR. It was added by a human as automated weather instruments can't detect it. Either someone saw smoke aloft that originated from miles away, or that person made a mistake. Since the visibility was not below 7 miles, you have to rule out fog, mist, and haze. It could have been just normal clouds as it was partly cloudy before and after this report.

Oh, okay. Thanks for confirming that. I couldn't find an 8 in the code for the F6 (which symbolizes Smoke) for that day though.

I think the smoke icon the same as the dust icon.
socool775: Were there any fires burning in Lansing at the time your IStar reported smoke?

I don't think so, and I'm not sure why the Intellistar reported it... given this was the only LF with this report.
