Inspired by a Rosemarie Fiore lesson I did with my kiddos at school, I teach you a little tutorial on the basics of pastels! Watch as I blend, erase, and layer to create a dreamy abstract drawing..I show you a perfect technique to create juicy backgrounds in your Art Journal. • This is awesome! What exactly did you use for the background?

  • Thanks for the compliment!

For the background I use the chalk pastels instead of oil pastels. Have fun creating!

  • This is great fun! You could definitely draw words/images into the oil pastels to take a step further in your art journal! Do you mind if I post a blog about this? Love it!

  • Sure!! Thanks for sharing and your kind words. Peace & Love.

  • Excellent!

  • Thanks chica!!!

  • I have had to try,but i really don't manage to draw so fast as you do.

  • Thank you so much for this video tutorial. I run a small business teaching art to primary age kids after school and I showed them this video. Then they got busy with their pastels and had a great time!

  • Yay I finally know how to use pastels

  • Very nice. Good music.

  • how much did these cost? both chalk and oil based?

    great job though!!! ♥♥

  • Very nice.

How old is your kids, I mean little students. My two girls ar e4 and 6 and they both love to paint. Will it be suitable for 6yo to do this project, with my help of course. I tried to find any books about how to teach kids to paint but there are all for kids 8 and up.

    You are splashing and smashing.

    Good job.

    Keep up posting.

  • very juicy!

  • You are adorable! I love your fun and simple techniques. I am an occupational therapist and work with severely autistic children and we often dabble with abstract art using different media. I would love to try this tactile art project with them. Thanks for sharing.

  • I love this technique! Thanks so much for sharing! I will have to try this with my students and in my art journal!

  • this is very helpfull cespecially since my art class just started with oil pastels and blending colors, do you have any suggestions on how to draw fruit on top of contrasting color paper, like a yellow pear on top of a purple paper, or red apple on a green paper???
