I just found out this song was written by my grandfather for Roy. He died from leukemia when I was just a young boy. I think of him often and wish I could ask him about life now that Im a man. Finding this song really answered some deep questions I had. Thank you so much for posting and thanks to everyones great comments. True Country lives on!

Took the right turn 41 years ago. There have been doubts and hard times but there is the way it should be and then there's the way it is.

As a counselor, I believe we always make good choices...We make decisions based on the information we have on hand right now....That information keeps changing...Things change...The decisions we make at some future point are based on the information we have then. That's why Right Or Left At Oak Street is a decison that we all have to make everyday. I am trying to decide now which way to turn...I have always gone right in the past...

I recently heard this song on an old radio air check from 1968, that someone put up on the net. I wonder how many times a day people the world over find themselves in the quandary addressed in the title of the song. I know I have more than once in life wished I could make myself take the left instead of the alternative.

You never know until you get there........and at the end of the day, you choose your own way. But you wont know till you get there.

it just came up on pandora. i must have not heard this for 30 years at least.
The first time I heard this song, my thought was "Oh thank God! I'm NOT the only one that considered taking that left turn . . . "

@TxKimberly , I never worried about taking a left turn, it was that right turn that troubled me. After five years of taking that right turn, it became apparent that it was a dead end.
