Branford Marsalis (August 26, 1960, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana) is an American jazz and classical saxophonist.

He began his professional career in the early 1980s playing with Art Blakey's big band, Clark Terry, and Blakey's Jazz Messengers. From 1982 to 1985 he played with his brother Wynton's group, then left to play in Sting's backup band. In 1985, he appeared at Live Aid as Sting's only accompaniment (later joined by Phil Collins). In 1986 he set up his own group. From 1992 to 1995 he was musical director of the Tonight Show Band. He then set up the Buckshot LeFonque project which intended to combine jazz with rhythm and blues, hip hop, and rock. Throughout the early 1990s, Branford had a series of guest appearances with the Grateful Dead, which are among the most popular performances in that band's history. He also toured with Miles Davis in one of Davis' last bands.

He is the creator of the record company Marsalis Music and the founder of the Branford Marsalis Quartet.

He is the oldest of the six Marsalis brothers, four of whom are jazz musicians, as is their father Ellis Marsalis. He is most prominently known in jazz as a tenor and soprano saxophonist and a most talented brilliant musical innovator among his brothers. Branford is a Life Scout and his brother Wynton is an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. WIKIPEDIA

  • If any of you have ever spent time with this dude you would know he is probably one of the coolest motherfuckers in the world. Most of you who say he is a dick are probably angry because he told you that you need to practice and he most likely knocked you off the bullshit high horse you were on. Before you judge someone ask around about the person. I mean ask people who are going to give you a valid opinion because of experience.

  • If I didn't already know that this song was off Braggtown and is actualy a good tune, I would have thought it was one of those 'branford shreds' videos!

  • If you've never met Wynton, how can you call him conceited?

  • Met Branford and he's a dick. His master-class was "ask me questions" Thanks Branford. Never met Wynton but they are the two most conceeded players I have witnessed

  • Well i cant say i know perfectly... But the one couple of secs i spent with branford he was jerk. And when I listen to his radio interviews his opinions are very wierd... "Jazz is to hip for kids. They cant take that kind of stuff I dissagree with my brother on that." taht kind of stuff other wise he sounds great and I do think wynton him should get playing with eachother if his personality changes.

  • I've met Brandford and Wynton in person and have spent well over an hour with each and judging by that i'd say Wynton is a lot more fun to be around... Branford has a strong 'get outta my face what do you want' kinda vibe...

  • Er is nu ook een Lantaren/Venster group op YouTube: /group/lantarenvenster.

  • sound is poor

  • Maybe he doesn't get along with his brother?

  • why hasnt anyone commented on this? this is great, he needs to get with his brother start playing if you ask me
