Thanks. The 3rd generation MR2 pump (I think the years 2000 - 2005) haev a built in controller that lets the pump idle down when there is no steering input. It works good enough that I did not add any additional speed control. You may be able to hook up the VSS signal if your car has the same signal as the Toyota. Works great and draws a lot less current than the earlier year MR2 pumps.
