October 25th 1985
This was a short-lived band but all the members played at Jake's Boathouse in Brampton in the 1980's, under various band names, starting with "The Louisiana Joymakers" (formerly resident at Grossmans Tavern and then briefly at the Park Plaza Hotel in Toronto) Then the name changed to "The Louisiana Jazzmakers" which changed to "The Goodtime Jazzers" which changed to "The Toronto Jazzmakers" who ended up as "The Hot Five Jazzmakers" Whew!!
This track is a mixture of "Canal St Blues" and its "Tight like that". Played very fast 'cause the band had only 5 minutes to get in two numbers! (see also Snake Rag)
The line-up here is:
Brian Dinsdale (tpt) now leads "Dinny's All Stars". Jack King (bjo) is leader of the Silver Leaf Jazz Band. Rainer Hunck (bass) now plays banjo with the "Happy Pals"
Brian Towers (tbn) leads "The Hot Five Jazzmakers". Gary Breithaupt was on drums but we have lost touch with him. Janet Shaw plays the reeds with "The Hot Five Jazzmakers"
Was that Alex Welsh on trumpet? Looks helluva like him.
Good stuff.
