NUJ rally for Suzanne Breen

Journalists show their support for the Sunday Tribune's Suzanne Breen, who is fighting a case against the police to protect a confidential source. The PSNI is attempting to force Breen to disclose information which could identify a member of the terrorist organisation, the Real IRA, which she will go to jail for if she loses the case.

Despite the notorious paramilitary groups despicable methods, it is an important journalist principle that reporters can keep sources secret, otherwise it would be impossible to 'speak truth to power'. Sources can range from civil servants to police, whistleblowers to terrorists.

Leading the rally is socialist journalist Eamonn McCann, while those attending spanned a range of opinion and media outlets.
