Brian Hyland - Holiday For Clowns

1967. Just barely got into the Billboard Hot 100 at #94. Co-written by Sonny Curtis, who played with Buddy Holly, the Crickets, etc. but will be forever known as the writer and singer of the theme song for The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

I don't dislike the song.. I also don't mean to be offensive to anyone who enjoys this song. It just sounds like Hyland was a puppet singing for somebody else in this song (actually, in a lot of his songs). He has a mediocre voice at best and his diction sounds forced. The lyrics of this song are a joke. A joke that Billy Hyland obviously never got. I know jokes.. I'm a clown.. And clowns NEVER go on Holiday..

One of many excellent songs by Hyland that never made it big on the charts -- "Get The Message" and "Stay and Love Me All Summer" being among the others. A versatile singer whose hits were hard to compile because he seemed to be with a new record company every couple of months. Thank you so much for posting this and bringing back so many great memories.
