  • Cohen wrote many verses before he decided on 7 to comprise the song he sings. At various performances he sings some or all of them, often in differing order. The jeff Buckley version of the song, used by many others who cover it, only uses 5 of them.

  • Perla, this is such a great tribute and gift. Your voice is more beautiful than ever! And so are you!!

  • @bluecount101 beautifully said

  • It is great to see Perla with her daughter- the next generation is getting ready!

  • I know.. Jeff Buckley, K D Lang, Rufus Wainwright...

    the man himself, Leonard Cohen

all I'm saying is THiS is beautiful ♥

  • @coquinegau

Cohen itself adds verses and create different versions of his musics, and they're all great! Hallelujah is probably the most known, and the if you notice most of the singers which covers the Hallelujah, they're covering Jeff's Buckley version. Sometimes I wonder if some of them really knows who Cohen is.... Only few have the feeling for those songs and are deserved to be listened, like Johnny Cash, Perla Batalla and Jeff Buckley, in my opinion. But the "feeling" is a complex subject

  • The wonderful Leonard keeps adding new verses, and I have lost count of how many there are...so individual singers select, and he varies it too......he has unsung verses to others of his songs too...he is essentially a poet...and I love him!!

  • Can a real Cohen fan explain this to me ?

Why does this song has so many different version? I have heard so many people singin it, including Leonard, and they all choose a different ending or intro.. i love the song but i wonder why they do that!

  • We saw Perla at the Lensic Theater in Santa Fe, NM a few days ago - an amazing performance.

She sang this song, and it brought the house down. What an awesome voice; what extraordinary talent!.

And her back-up musicians are also exceptionally good.
