I know alot of people search youtube for exhaust clips for cars. I also know that some of these people may not know too much about cars, and feel lost. I made a video explaining a few things about the exhaust systems on the 05+ Mustang. There is alot more info then in the video, but I thought this was a decent amount of info for begginers, without overwhelming them. I want people to post thoughts/opinions and make this a good resource for people to get advice and knowledge.
Here is a link to more info. Although its not complete for some reason. Credit for link given to AmericanMuscle4.6GT on Mustangforums. Ask any questions about your exhaust or potential exhaust and I will answer.

  • Mike thanks for the info, you were right on. The o/r x with flows sounded terrible. The "trumpeting" was killing me. I put a high flow catted x with frpp stingers on. Still loud, but deep and smooth. Thanks again.

  • Anytime. You should take a video and post it up ;)

  • Thanks Mike, with the flows it sounds horrible inside at about 2100 rpm, even a regular driving. The trumpeting sounds like something is broke in the mufflers. I already have the stingers, I'll let you know how that works.

  • sounds good

  • Hey Mike, just put an o/r x on my shelby. I wanted the better flow. I kept the Flowmaster ATs on. I love the volume, not to loud at regular driving but LOUD when I'm on it. The trumpeting with the flows is killing me though. My question is if I go with FRPP stingers will that get rid of the trumpeting.

  • Considerably. The chambered design of the flows doesnt pair up too great with an x pipe. Since the stingers are straight thru it will smooth out the sound a bit. The stingers will still trumpet a bit (which is inevitable with any o/r setup), but it will be much less noticable and wont have the tinny/metallic sound the flows have. Flows with an o/r x almost sounds like marbles in a coffee can thats being shaken. Stingers+ x pipe will sound great

    Nice vid ;)

  • High flow cats will increase the sound over stock, so you will notice a difference in sound. I have heard that even with highflow cats, some people have gotten CEL and needed to retune anyways. To be honest, if I were in your shoes I would get an intake/tuner and an o/r H. The tune will wake your car up, plus a handheld tuner is necessary to do most things down the road (compensate for dif. size wheels/tires, adjust speedo for gears, read trouble codes, ect.)

  • Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking of staying with a catted h-pipe so I dont have to tune it. Will that still make it sound better?
