When an outlet won't work, sometimes your multimeter or other tester will say it should! But the acid test remains running a good old light bulb. This master electrician recommends using such a bulb and socket and not relying so much on electrical testers that are fooled by half-poor connections and phantom voltages.

  • Thanks for the video. How do I make one or where do I find a socket like that?

  • @CAnnRz Many hardware stores have these. It might be called a temporary weatherproof socket.

  • I tested the outlet in the house, the outlet does not on. I checked the breaker box, I switched off for few minutes then I reset on but it won't stay on.

Is the outlet bad or Is the breaker bad ?

  • @GolDeafish Sounds like there is a short on the circuit. If so, the breaker is fine (doing its job tripping) and the outlet may not be the cause of the short. The circuit may have many other places where the short could be happening.
