Not many have seen Ron Ludington, dean of American pairs skating, on ice.....but here is a short clip of them winning the 1960 Olympic Bronze medal, in a bit of an upset over Canadians Maria and Otto Jelinek (who would later place 2nd at Worlds in 1960, and win the World title in 1962. Maria and Otto had been World Bronze medalists in 1957 and 1958. Nancy and Ron Ludington had won the World Bronze in 1959. They were US National Champions from 1957 (as Nancy Rouillard) - 60.....They married in 1958, so Tonya Harding wasn't the first married girl in skating. Also competing at this time, Nina and Stanislav Zhuk of Russia (who won three European Silver medals in 1958, 59, and 60).
Marika Kilius and Hans-Jurgen Baulmer were long time West German competitors winning European Gold in 1959. 60,61,62,63, and 64, with a World Silver in 1959, Bronze in 60, and Gold in 1963, and 64. Marika had competed earlier with a different partner, Franz Ningel, and won 3 European Bronze (1955-57) and a World Bronze in 1956. In somewhat of a controversy, they were superceeded by Ludmilla Belousova and Oleg Protopopov at the 1964 Olympics.
Here is a more substantial presentation of Barbara Wagner and Robert Paul, the World Champs from 1957 - 1960 (from Canada).
Ron is such a nice man. He was very kind to me when I was a new skater in Culver City, California! Super supportive!

I didn't realize he taught in California! I always associate him with Boston or Wilmington......I had a good friend who spent a lot of time at Culver City. Did you ever come across Lyn Oros??? best wishes

Bangor, ME. Since I was last in touch with her she's doing well. She remarried, but she's now a widow although she's still good friends with Ron. She always had a lot of fascinating stories, and she's also very good friends with Frank Carroll. She was the original coach of Kitty and Peter Carruther's but she sent them down to Ron. She still teaches private lessons.

That is so good to hear! I happend to just come across an old Skating Magazine recently, that had Kitty Carruthers placing 2nd in a pre-juvenile event in Providence, RI....Perhaps Nancy was coaching her there........So many connections in this sport! best wishes
