A very shaky video improved using Video Stabilization tools developed by The MathWorks.
The original is at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pRlhgETqb8
In this version, the skier is kept at a fixed location on the screen, and the image is translated as necessary. Since the skier is sometimes very near the end of the frame, this results in the black borders which move around the window.
The skier is identified by a combination of known colors (a red section above a black section) and comparison with the previous frame. There are a few jumpy moments when the wrong "target" is selected briefly.
The basic technique is the same as the one used here: http://www.mathworks.com/products/viprocessing/demos.html?file=/products/demo...
but extended to cope with colour video input and to look for known features in the target.
