I bought this gramophone off eBay because although it looked pretty sad and neglected I thought it was a nicely proportioned little machine and had potential to be a good performer. I've cleaned up the base which came up quite well and serviced the motor and soundbox but still need to 'de-rust' and probably respray the horn as there is sadly very little of the original paintwork left.
It is quite an interesting machine as it has no makers name on the case but uses a bracket, arm and 'analyzing reproducer' licensed from the American Graphophone Co (essentially Columbia). The single spring motor looks well made but again, it has no name that I can see. I would estimate the date of the machine at about 1910 or thereabouts.
The record playing is an acoustic recording from 1923 of 'I've Got a Song for Sale' by Ladd's Black Aces on the Gennett label, quite a hot number. Again, the sound pickup on my microphone is not great and there is a bit of distortion (I need to get a new camera!)
Also, bonus Silver Dollar fish in the background.
I love this machine, better than an ipod!where did you buy this machine?

@94sealover Thanks! I'd take one over an iPod too, although they're a bit tricky to listen to on the train! I got this machine from eBay, it was a wreck but I cleaned it up (which involved lots of nasty caustic chemicals), painted the horn (after I recorded the video, hence all the rust) and fixed the motor, and now it's running pretty nicely!
