Hi
I see two issues
1 add a resistor on the led pin of the opto
that will stop you buring the led as well as
2you may try looking at a lm555 to tune the
time you want the cap to be shorted to vcc.
3The output of a opto is not able to carry a lot current look at a bigger transisor
like a bc139 to carry the current to the
power rail
good Luck

hi arie, it's good to have comments from other technical people...
to go through your issues...
1) Their is a 20K POT in their for tuning, also my coils don't produce nearly enough power to burn out the LED's in them...
2) using a 555 in monostable mode is a good idea, however you have to account for the power that the 555 uses and it severely increases the complexity of the system to the point were someone of basic level knowledge could not work out whats going on...

3) the opto does not switch much curent and this is granted... but it's more than enough given how my system is setup and the duty cycle that i'm asking of it... The 'upgrade' would be to turn it into opto darlington pair so that the output from the opto triggers a transister... (i did try this)
This vid was my way of 'introducing' opto's into the bedini forums instead of using relays etc...
I have bigger plans for opto's... A complete re-design of the bedini system... ;)
