Defining Marriage - Defending DOMA

Marriage is our most important and timeless social institution. Marriage is a personal promise between a husband and wife that accomplishes a unique and special public purpose -- providing children with a secure social and legal attachment to both their mother and father (while also binding together the mother and father themselves). Redefining marriage fundamentally undermines this public purpose by saying (legally, socially, and culturally) that both men and women -- moms and dads -- are not essential to children, the family, or our future.

This video summarizes what we can observe from the proponents of the same-sex marriage agenda. Their purpose has an individualistic goal. It doesn't take into consideration the effect that the redefinition of marriage will have on the society.

I can't understand how we are so blind with the consequences our society have been suffering from due to our redefinition of natural laws. From the legalization of contraception, abortion, divorce... and now same sex marriage.

Calling a relationship 'marriage' is a completely new concept for our species, or any species. Normally a special relationship between two genders that result in an infant is called 'sex'. So this 'completely unique relationship in nature' isn't unique at all. I'm not sure why you think that is so. Marriage isn't required to procreate. It has nothing to do with procreation or the rearing of children

Marriage is nothing more than a social contract between two people in love.

if all humans are equal, if woman can marry a man it is discrimination to not allow a man to marry a man and vice versa

But again, the important point to realize is that pointing to 2 men or women and saying "married" is like pointing to a tree and saying "rock".

This is becuase we realized that there was this completely unique relationship in nature that is completely sufficient and necessary to procreate. This was between a male and female of the species. We then called this relationship "marriage".

Hi Clorow, I would debate that what married couples have done historically and even still today are make *and* raise children. Just think of the percentage of married couples that are raising there own genetically related children. I would say it would most likely be over 90% today, and historically over 95%.
