Why is the location undisclosed? Agree with Iona, this is probably very important but you damage the case by keeping it quiet. Please get the information out there or at least explain the reason for secrecy.

Hi Simon, The location is being kept a secret as the the land holders don't want 30 calls an hour from the media like I am getting and also don't want people crossing there land to take a look. The farmers said "if it's happening then people should know about it". The people such as the state and fed gov need to know where it is and do. I will be respecting the land holders request to keep the location quiet. Kind regards Dayne

My name is Dayne and I shot this video. This comment has got the most likes so I would like to try answer your questions. The gas detector is a basic unit and does not tell you what kind of gas it's picking up however it does pick up are propane, methane, butane and ethane. The levels were between 10,000 PPM and 100,000 PPM which is a high level. Is the river going to explode in flames, I think not. Origin energy told the land owner that it was CSG methane gas after it had tests done on the gas.

Yes, the very warm and cloudy rising bore water out near St.George has quite a strong sulphurous smell to it. I've swum in it, the cows and sheep drink it after a while once it has stood in the dam. I wouldn't drink it.

Wikipedia...BTEX: "Contamination typically occurs near petroleum and natural gas production sites".

So, do you pump it down, or do the naturally occurring BTEX compounds escape later after you leave?

Are you saying also that sniffing hydrocarbon gas mixtures is harmless?

(the generally young aerosol can and petrol sniffers' brains are safe then!)

Dalby looked pretty good last time I drove through. The cotton is further west.

    Yes.

Origin Energy said it was CSG gas. (see top Comment)

"Origin energy told the land owner that it was CSG methane gas after it had tests done on the gas."

    That is the evidence.

    So it's bad for pumps.

I'd like to float some candles down there at night. It could be interesting!

On the other hand, they should be checking for traces of Radon gas too.

Escaping Radon gas is inert - but not harmless.

From wikipedia: "As radon itself decays, it produces new radioactive elements called radon daughters or decay products. Unlike the gaseous radon itself, radon daughters are solids and stick to surfaces, such as dust particles in the air. If such contaminated dust is inhaled, these particles can stick to the airways of the lung and increase the risk of developing lung cancer."

Methane is not inert, it obviously reacts with oxygen, ie;it is flammable. I'm not a medical person but breathing hydrocarbons (like petrol sniffing) cannot be good for you?

Hi gasleaks, can you provide me with details on the gas detection meter you used? I'm thinking of making a low cost methane meter and logger with an Arduino processor but do not need to reinvent the wheel. Also interested the price of your device.

Cool, would anything happen if you put a match to it?
