Decided to do a 0-60 test. Not the most accurate way of doing one, but it is about 6 sec. with out brake boosting so I think I could get closer to 5 If I brake boosted.

  • so you rotated the turbo 180 degrees? how did u fab up the down pipe????

  • @prozack678 had a guy on turbobricks fab one up and send it out. works great.

  • That's very quick! I used to have a 740 Turbo wagon, but I sold it for a Taurus SHO (I wanted a stick-shift). Mods? What year? Mine was an '88.

  • Mine is a '91. Currently I have a 3" exhaust and downpipe, upgraded 15g turbo, fuel & ignition chips, MBC, ford brown top injectors, 3" intake and MAF sensor, 3" electric exhaust cutout, and a huge 3" thick ebay intercooler. I am waiting for some more free time so I can put in an electric fan and the IPD cam thats sitting around.

  • @jb0177 uggalansnugglan is correct, and diesels are hard to find in the usa though

  • we have an 89 wagon with a 91 motor. what is the deal with the rotated turbo and downpipe? ive been looking for a downpipe, they are expensive to have fabbed. i want to do full turbo back exhaust, in stead of cat back on it now.

  • I wanna do this to my 88 740 GLE, but I don't think it could handle it...it currently has 348,673 miles on it. lol

  • @Luke1337 They were considered pretty fast for their day (0 to 60mph anywhere from the low to high 7s), and yes, I loved the "rush" of the turbo from, say, 3,000 rpm to redline. It was as if someone lit the fuse on a rocket engine that was connected to the rear of the car. And they were safer than anything else on the road, to boot. The B230 "red" blocks would last forever if you paid attention to the oil. The "white" blocks that started with the 850 series were rough & coarse in comparison.

  • I had four 245GLTs over the years. Two were intercooled with AW71s and two were not intercooled but had M46s. All of them seemed slower and far rougher than the 740/760/940 turbos I drove. Probably had something to do with the low-friction B230 blocks, hydraulic engine mounts, and their electronic fuel injection. The 245GLTs had regular mounts and CIS injection. It was literally a night and day difference. Don't often hear this mentioned, so I thought I'd throw it out here just for the record.

  • thumbs up if you watch random 740 videos 8D

  • @jb0177 the 4 cylinder turbo diesel is called 740 td. This one is a 740 tic=turbo intercooler.

  • Is this 4 cylinder diesel or gas?

Whatever it is, it is a sleeper!

I'm sure it eats ricers for breakfast!!
