ANCHOR:
And onto Indonesia, where 90% of the population is celebrating the Muslim religious month of Ramadan. Every day they fast from sunrise to sunset then hold a feast every evening. And our Jakarta team shows us one special treat many families are enjoying. Let's take a look.

STORY:
At Jakarta's Bundaran Hotel a special celebration is underway... moon cake day. So to celebrate, two thousand moon cakes are being given away to drivers-by.

And there are shared out by forty nominated Chinese pairs called Koko-Cici, or Big Brother, Big Sister.

[David and Erny, Koko Cici Jakarta 2008]: (2nd Interview) (female, Bahasa)
(ERNY, Cici, opening the brochure)
"With this brochure, people can learn more about us, and it also includes moon cake legends. Our hope with that is for everyone to understand why the moon cake is such an important Chinese tradition.

It is now half an hour before sunset, the time when families and friends come together to end the daily fast. The drivers are looking forward to tasting the moon cakes!

[Yoyo Iskandar, Taxi Driver] (1st Interview) (male, Bahasa)
Yes this would be great if it happens everyday For me its so special. I cannot celebrate open-fasting because I have to keep driving. But with this cake I feel I am... it means a lot to me.

[David and Erny, Koko Cici Jakarta 2008]: (3rd Interview) (male, bahasa) (David, koko, speaking)
Someone told us, 'Oh I haven't tried this cake I have lived for so long and I havent tried it until now.' So now at last, they can taste the moon cake.

Koko & Cici Jakarta would like to wish you a happy moon cake day!

  • koko n cici is fujian language :) it means gege and jie jie or brother and sister ^^

  • mooncake without lard is not a complete mooncake...but it's good to retain such culture in a country whr chinese culture is lacking or almost extinct. Keep up the good work.

  • can't they just put gege and jie jie?
