Spins are about the only issue I've had with my horse. He'll do everything else beautifully and effortlessly, but he struggles with spins. He'll do them very correctly, but I just can't seem to get him to increase speed. Your point about getting them to keep moving forward in the first video is great, and I think that's my problem, I just need to get him un-stuck. Thanks for these videos!

I just clicked the link in the description, and a BIZARRE page came up saying the server had been hacked, and the window was moving around kinda crazy! I don't suggest anyone click that link!!

@GoodRedBlackRatio Hi, yes that link was an accident. It's fixed and fine now.

a nice video. I have always been able to get my horses to turn around but am learning to collect them better and get the spin to be more flat. I am sure my timing is the only thing lacking now-thanks. My question is--Do you try to increase the speed of your turn as you time the leg before the spin-are you adding impulsion as you go along?

@TLCinNM1 The speed of the spin is dictated by the number of "clucks" and the intensity of my outside leg. Ideally, clucking is enough to get the desired speed.

I have just started to get my horse to spin by watching your videos, but my horse will not change leads to save his life, is there a trick or a certain way you teach your horses to change leads??
babydeur 1 year ago
@babydeur , No tricks. Good lead changes are the result of getting independent control of the horse's body parts and positioning his body for the change.
On my website, I have a dvd available that shows how to do it.
