Here is a real rarity! A working 1940's Penny Arcade machine. There used to be rows of these on the boardwalk. All would ask a question at the top of the machine. To see the answer, you slide a penny into the coin slot and looked into the "peekaboo hole" and the answer would "light up" for a few seconds! What you were seeing is a 3D diorama all handmade and painted...in this case, the sailor on the beach of an island with a lovely lady--nothing risque at all!

  • question, why did they paint the boat on the wall of the viewer were it cannot be seen?

  • @RCoehrs Not sure why...but when you look into the hole, you can see quite a bit when you look all around.

  • I really love all these videos!

  • thanks!! Todd

  • @RCoehrs Because you CAN see the boat. You look through the hole and the back wall is a mirror.

  • I love these old machines. I'm sure that would get quite a bit with a good tnt restoration.

  • @RCoehrs I think there was originally a mirror on the back panel that he removes in the video? The boat would have been reflected in the mirror that points at the peephole.
