Golden Valley Police arrested four teenagers in the early morning hours Sunday, Sept. 6, near Bassett Creek and Regent Avenue North. The teens were arrested in connection with a string of auto thefts that began in early July. The four, who have not been charged yet, had been stockpiling the items they stole in their bedrooms at their homes, police said. Items they took from unlocked cars in residential driveways in the northeast and northwest quadrants of the city were recovered after search warrants were conducted at the homes of a 15-year-old Golden Valley boy, and two New Hope boys, ages 15 and 16.
Brooklyn Park will be beefing up patrols this week before and after school looking for school bus law offenders. Police said the hot spot for traffic is along Noble Avenue corridor from 85th Avenue North to Brooklyn Boulevard - where Birch Grove Elementary, Park Center Senior High and Brooklyn Junior High are located.
The West Metro Fire-Rescue District, serving the cities of New Hope and Crystal, approved a $2 million proposed budget for 2010 this week. Now the proposed budget goes to the respective city councils for their consideration.
A "three-peat" was celebrated at the Robbinsdale District 281 School Board meeting Sept. 8. The Robins Adapted Athletes, coached by Marcus Onsum, were honored for winning three state crowns in one year: adapted soccer in the fall, adapted floor hockey in the winter season, and the state adapted softball tournament May 30. They finished a year of 41 games without a single loss. Their coach has been named the 2008-2009 Adapted Athletics Coach of The Year and will receive his award at the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association dinner Oct. 3.
